Irish Open field target event N.I.F.T.A.
N.I.F.T.A. to host Irish Open
The long awaited Irish Open field target event will be hosted by N.I.F.T.A. in August 2007. The event will be held in the Palace Demense, grounds of Armagh City and District Council. A setup/plinking range will be available from Friday 17th August with the competition taking place over two days Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August. The event will consist of two 50 target courses.

RULES
The rules and regulations must be strictly adhered to.
A copy of the current N.I.F.T.A. Shooting Rules and Regulations shall be made available at all N.I.F.T.A. events.
- AIRGUNS - Air rifle of any calibre or power maybe used.
- SIGHTS - Any form of sighting system may be used laser sighting systems are not allowed. No separate device designed specifically for range-finding may be used.
- AMMUNITION - Any design of pellet that is made of lead alloy or zinc or zinc alloy, or any suitable alternative may be used
- CHIEF MARSHALL & INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS - Prior to each shoot the organisers will appoint a chief Marshal and if required, a Deputy The responsibility of this appointment is the implementation of these rules and the overall conduct of the shoot. In any matters arising from or not covered by these rules the Chief Marshals decision is final.
- TARGETS: MAIN EVENT - Knockdown silhouette targets and/or spinning/suspended targets shall be used. Where spinning suspended targets are to be used the targets can be circulate and/or square with a maximum diameter/width of 5Omm. The course may contain targets of a reduced size provided that the total number of such targets does not exceed 25% of t total number of targets in the course with the following limitations a The diameter/width may be no smaller than ~ The furthest target shall not be more than 35 yards (32 metres from the shooting position No enforced positional shots will be allowed on these targets. It is recommended that targets be coloured yellow or white. All targets shall be clearly and consecutively numbered.
- COURSE OF FIRE - A full course of fire shall consist of not less than 40 shots The minimum and maximum distances or any targets from the firing position shall be a yards and 55 yards respectively subject to range limitations and otherwise to within a tolerance 0 +/- 10%.
- TARGET SEOUENCE - All targets must be shot in numerical order. In the event of a target being shot out of sequence, the competitor shall forfeit the omitted target being credited with a miss and resume shooting at the target immediately following it. Out of sequence shots involving a target from another lane require the above procedure to be followed. In this case the target shot out of sequence shall be shot as normal upon reaching that lane.
- SCORING - Scoring shall be on a basis of one point or each hit and zero or a miss Flits shall be marked with an X and misses with a 0.
- SHOOTING - Any shooting position is allowed. Targets that have been designated standing or kneeling MUST be shot in that position the number of standing shots must not exceed lot 10% the total number of shots of the course. The number of kneeling shots must not exceed 10% of the total number shots on the course. All shots, from whatever position, must be made with the competitor able to touch the firing line. Fully adjustable rifle stocks are permitted with no limitation on design a single rifle sling, separate or otherwise, is permitted as a means of steadying the aim. Any type of approved clothing, glove or footwear is allowed. No other means of support, other than the competitor, shall be used for rifle or body. Only one shot is allowed at any one target. Shots taken at any one lane shall not exceed the total number of targets in that lane with the following exceptions a.
- Unsighted shots - Unsighted shots with the knowledge of the partner or Marshalled. In a shoot-off situation Definitions of shooting positions: Kneeling: There shall be only three points of contact with the ground 2 feet and I knee). The rear foot shall be straight in line with the leg and the gun stock clear of the knee. An approved seat may be used to support the rear foot and/or protect the knee provided that the foot has contact with the ground. Standing: Any shot taken n a standing position without the aid of any artificial support Disabilities. The Chief Marshall shall make whatever arrangements are deemed to be appropriate where necessary to facilitate competitors with disabilities.
- TIME PER LANE - In the event of a competitor delaying excessively, the Marshall may decide to rime the lane with the time starting when the eye is put o~ the sight The time will be continuous, with the number of minutes allowed equating to the number of targets in that lane
- SEATING - The maximum height or any form of seating is 3 inches (75mm including any back support This seat maybe used as an aid to sitting kneeling or standing shots within the above guidelines but or no other purpose variations on this rule may be applied at the discretion of the Chief Marshall in recognition of a competitors disability providing that no unfair advantage is gained
- SCORES - Scores shall be recorded by markers selected by the host club. A competitor’s score may not be recorded by a member of his/her family and/or club.
- DISPUTED SCORES - Any challenge must be made prior leaving the target. Any dispute not resolved at that time shall be referred to the Chief Marshall, whose decision shall be final
- PENALITIES - The penalty for unsafe practice, or any form of cheating is disqualification, with the governing bodies reserving the right to take further action.
- LEAVING THE FIRING LINE - The competitor may leave the firing line under the following circumstances: a. Voluntary abandonment of the shoot in which case their score to that point will be presented as a valid result. b. To attempt to repair equipment that has been rendered unsafe or incapable of firing a shot by whatever means. It does not include zero shift of optical equipment or poorly zeroed systems c. Exception can be any other repair occurrence that is deemed valid by the Chief Marshall or Deputy.
- FIRING LINE CONDUCT - coaching or persistent barracking of a competitor in competition will not be allowed Rifles and/or equipment will NOT be shared on the firing line In the event of a cease fire order guns will be discharged into the ground and the muzzles dropped Targets must NOT be sighted during a cease tire Guns with only be sighted shouldered or discharged over a recognised firing line A gun that is not being used will be unloaded and placed in a suitable rifle rack or back in its cover
- TIED SCORES - In the event of tied scores a shoot-of will decide final placing. The course of fire and the targets must be representative of the event
- CLASS OF ENTRY - If used there will be classes of entry as per the NIFTA Grading list A shooter may elect to shooting a higher grade This does not affect their listed grading unless results alter their percentages
- DRUGS AND ALCOHOL - The carrying and/or consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs on the firing line is strictly prohibited. The handling or usage of a gun will NOT be permitted if the shooter has consumed alcohol or illegal drugs prior to shooting.
- CAMOUFLAGE CLOTHING - The wearing of camouflage clothing is not to be encouraged within the discipline of field target shooting. Camouflage clothing may be worn at club shoots, at the discretion of the host club. The wearing of camouflage clothing will NOT be permitted at any N.I.F.T.A. competition shoot.
- NON MEMBERS - Any member of the N.I.F.T.A. that invites a non member to an event will be held responsible or that person’s action while they are at the event. Should the non-member act an irresponsibly the N.I.F.T.A. member will always be held accountable.
