Northern Ireland Field Target Association (N.I.F.T.A.)

When field target shooting started in Northern Ireland in 1993 it was under the auspices of the Irish Field Target Association set up by Mr Jim Bowman. Shooters competed in a national league with competitions held at Omagh, Strabane, Bushvalley, Down and Dungannon.

The National Governing Body later changed its name to N.I.F.T.A. N.I.F.T.A. hosted the 2003 world championships in Slieve Gullion in Newry. A very successful event was enjoyed by all shooters.

The N.I.F.T.A. teams competing in the world championships have enjoyed great success coming 3rd in 2003 and 2005, 4th in 2004 and 5th in 2006. Individual shooters have finished in the top ten twice ( Dave O’Hara and Dermot Ross) and Junior shooter Jamie Johnston finished 1st in 2000 in USA. N.I.F.T.A. organises a County league for affiliated club members from March to the end of October. The team to represent N.I.F.T.A. is picked from the results of the County league.
